Economic Performance of the Automotive Industry in February 2025

In February 2025, China’s automobile production and sales reached 2.103 million and 2.129 million units, respectively, representing year-on-year growth of 39.6% and 34.4%. Among them, new energy vehicle (NEV) production and sales totaled 888,000 and 892,000 units, respectively, marking year-on-year increases of 91.5% and 87.1%.

I. Automobile Sales Increased by 34.4% Year-on-Year

In February, China’s automobile production and sales reached 2.103 million and 2.129 million units, respectively, reflecting year-on-year growth of 39.6% and 34.4%.

From January to February, China’s automobile production and sales amounted to 4.553 million and 4.552 million units, respectively, marking year-on-year increases of 16.2% and 13.1%.

(I) Passenger Vehicle Sales up 36.2% Year-on-Year

In February, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 1.785 million and 1.815 million units, respectively, with year-on-year growth of 40.2% and 36.2%.

From January to February, passenger vehicle production and sales totaled 3.936 million and 3.948 million units, respectively, up 17.2% and 14.4% year-on-year.

(II) Commercial Vehicle Sales up 25% Year-on-Year

In February, commercial vehicle production and sales amounted to 318,000 and 313,000 units, respectively, marking year-on-year increases of 36.6% and 25%.

From January to February, commercial vehicle production and sales reached 617,000 and 604,000 units, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 10.2% and 5.1%.

II. NEV Sales Increased by 87.1% Year-on-Year

In February, NEV production and sales reached 888,000 and 892,000 units, respectively, reflecting year-on-year increases of 91.5% and 87.1%. NEV sales constituted 41.9% of total new vehicle sales during the month.

From January to February 2025, NEV production and sales totaled 1.903 million and 1.835 million units, respectively, both up 52% year-on-year. Notably, NEV sales accounted for 40.3% of total new vehicle sales.

III. Automobile Exports Increased by 16.9% Year-on-Year

In February, automobile exports registered 441,000 units, up 16.9% year-on-year. Among them, 131,000 were NEVs, marking a year-on-year growth of 60.5%.

From January to February, China’s automobile exports reached 911,000 units, up 10.9% year-on-year. NEV exports amounted to 282,000 units, up 54.5% year-on-year.
