China’s Automobile Production and Sales Surpass 10 Million Units for the First Time in the First Four Months, with NEVs Accounting for 42.7% of Total Sales

Economic Performance of the Automotive Industry in April 2025


I. Automobile Sales Increased by 9.8% Year-on-Year

In April, China’s automobile production and sales reached 2.619 million and 2.59 million units, respectively, marking year-on-year increases of 8.9% and 9.8%.

 

From January to April, China’s automobile production and sales totaled 10.175 million and 10.06 million units, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 12.9% and 10.8%.

 

(I) Passenger Vehicle Sales up 11% Year-on-Year

In April, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 2.257 million and 2.223 million units, respectively, up 10.2% and 11% year-on-year.

 

From January to April, passenger vehicle production and sales totaled 8.765 million and 8.641 million units, respectively, with year-on-year growth of 14.5% and 12.4%.

 

(II) Commercial Vehicle Sales up 2.7% Year-on-Year

 

In April, commercial vehicle production and sales amounted to 362,000 and 367,000 units, respectively, up 1.3% and 2.7% year-on-year.

 

From January to April, commercial vehicle production and sales reached 1.41 million and 1.418 million units, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 4.1% and 2%.

 

II. NEV Sales Increased by 44.2% Year-on-Year

 

In April, the production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 1.251 million and 1.226 million units, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 43.8% and 44.2%. NEV sales accounted for 47.3% of total new automobile sales for the month.

 

From January to April, NEV production and sales totaled 4.429 million and 4.3 million units, up 48.3% and 46.2% year-on-year, respectively. NEVs made up 42.7% of total new automobile sales during this period.

III. Automobile Exports Increased by 2.6% Year-on-Year

 

In April, China exported 517,000 complete vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%. NEV exports reached 200,000 units, marking a 76% year-on-year growth.

 

From January to April, China’s automobile exports stood at 1.937 million units, up 6% year-on-year. Among them, 642,000 were NEVs, marking a year-on-year increase of 52.6%.
