Digital and intelligent developments are driving profound changes in the global economy and society. As a key factor of production, data has become an important driving force for industrial development. In particular, the automotive industry—accounting for nearly 30% of the total industrial data volume—holds enormous innovationpotential and value. With the advancement of relevant policies, the industry is now at a critical stage of transitioning toward a data-driven model.Establishing a “trusted data space of automotive industry” represents a new paradigm for data circulation, and itsstrategic significance and practical valueare becoming increasingly evident.

From October 16 to 18, the 2025 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference (WICV 2025) was held in Beijing. The event was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. On the afternoon of October 18, at the Closing Ceremony, Wang Yao, Deputy Chief Engineer of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), officially released the Research Report on Trusted Data Space of Automotive Industry on behalf of the editorial committee and interpreted its core contents.

As the first authoritative, industry-level research achievement in China focusing on the trusted data space of the automotive industry, the report was led by the CAAM and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), with contributions from more than 20 industry, academic, and research institutions, including VDBP (Shanghai) Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Tsinghua University. It aims to provide policymakers, corporate decision-makers, R&D professionals, industry investors, and related research institutions in the automotive industry with a comprehensive, in-depth, and practically instructive reference. The goal is to jointly advance the establishment and development of the trusted data space for the automotive industry and promote the high-quality growth of China’s automotive sector.

At present, driven by national and local policies as well as industry exploration, multiple representative pathways for developing the trusted data space ofthe automotive industry have begun to take shape. In particular, the release of the Trusted Data Space Development Action Plan (2024-2028)and the first batch of innovation pilot projects marks the beginning of a new stage,in which China’s automotive sector is developing the trusted data space along multiple, parallel pathways. Application scenarios continue to expand,with a trend towarddifferentiated development and an integrated ecosystem.
The report provides an in-depth analysis of the theoretical foundations, current practices, application scenarios, key technologies, and operation models of the trusted data space in the automotive industry, along with its challenges and recommendations for future development.It also elaborates on the background of building a trusted data space in the automotive industry and presents the progress and practices both in China and abroad.
Focusing on the development pathway of the trusted data space in China’s automotive industry, the report systematically studiestypical data circulation scenarios, key technology applications, and sustainable operation models. It also provides targeted recommendations to address the existing issues and challenges in the current stage of development:
First, promote the phased implementation of high-value application scenarios to ensure that technological achievements deliver tangible benefits in specific business contexts;
Second, overcome key technological bottlenecks to continuously strengthen the security and reliability of the trusted data space;
Third, advance the establishment and operation models of the trusted data space in a coordinated manner to build an efficient and sustainable operational mechanism;
Fourth, build a co-created and co-governed ecosystem to promote broad participation and collaborative development.
The report calls on all industry stakeholders to work together to advance the development of a trusted data space in the automotive sector. Joint efforts are needed in scenario implementation, key technologies, establishment and operation, and ecosystem cultivation to systematically promote this initiative. These collective efforts aim to establish a sustainable, replicable, and scalable data development framework for the industry.
